AcousTx was founded in 2002 as a spin-off of Therus Corporation www.therus.com. AcousTx’ is committed to developing energy-based therapeutic devices to treat significant medical needs. AcousTx has an extensive portfolio of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU ) intellectual property, and experience using HIFU and other energy modalities. Our scientists and engineers believe that image guided therapeutic energy can be used to functionally modify tissue to achieve beneficial clinical outcomes without the inherent risks of using implanted devices.
 
AcousTx develops its own product concepts and also works in collaborative relationships with academic institutions, the federal government, and corporations. AcousTx has the personnel and development facilities to take a product idea from concept through technical and human feasibility including an in house intellectual property capability. Product concepts can be spun off into a separate corporation as in the case of CoAptus Medical Corporation www.coaptus.com. CoAptus Medical Corporation is developing an energy based percutaneous catheter treatment for the closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO). PFOs, a structural heart defect, have been associated with occurrences of stroke and migraine headaches.
